Youth 2017

KFC (Kids For Christ)

KFC is our Sunday School for four-year-olds through sixth graders.

In a joyful, one-room-school atmosphere, the children “travel through” the Bible by means of storytelling, skits, object lessons, games, and crafts!

KFC meets September through June at 8:45 a.m.

WACKO (We Are Christ’s Kids On a Mission)

During the school year, our 5th and 6th graders meet the 1st Wednesday of each month to count the money they’ve collected for their mission projects and to decide how the money is to be disbursed. WACKO began in 2004 and has contributed time and money to projects that have included  HEIFER International, Kids Against Hunger, Smile Train, Haitian relief, and tsunami and tornado relief. This has been made possible through a second offering at weekly worship services, the offerings from the Christmas programs, WACKO’s White Pole Road garage sales, Valentine HEIFER banks, “Kids Against Hunger” hayrides and special donations from individuals and organizations.

WACKO members and their families travel to Des Moines twice a year to package emergency meals through Iowa’s non-profit organization called Outreach, Inc.

They have a garage sale during the summer to raise money to package meals.

They go on a hayride in the fall to collect money to be able to package these meals.

DAY CAMP (a.k.a. Vacation Bible School)

20431268_1530045567053245_710448540254377467_nGood Shepherd sponsors an ecumenical, four-day camp each summer.

A preschool/kindergarten class meets at the Methodist Church for morning classes during that week.

College-age counselors from Riverside Bible Camp teach the 1st through 6th graders at Good Shepherd, using Bible study, skits, music, and crafts.

Our 7th and 8th graders meet Wednesday afternoons after school for a two-year program that strives to help them develop their personal faith and to deepen their understanding of the Bible, the creeds, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments.

JAM (Jesus and Me)

This ecumenical youth group for high school students meets every Sunday night during the school year.

The teenagers enjoy a Bible lesson, snacks, and fellowship!  They also occasionally lead our worship service.
